Background
By 1942 Germany had taken over most of Europe. The Allied Powers had fought the Axis Powers many times and won in the Battle of Britain and the Battle of the Atlantic. The Axis Powers and the Allied Powers both needed more resources so they turned to North Africa. They wanted oil and the Suez Canal. The Suez Canal would enable them to ship and trade and take over more. British troops were placed in Egypt to protect the Suez Canal. The winning of North Africa War would get the Allied Powers a step closer to winning World War II.
